Today’s weather was perfect, so I took the TMB variant route—which is only recommended in good weather. I'm glad I did!
Hotel Bouton d’Or served a great breakfast. I didn’t order a lunch box, but I had leftovers from the delicious Italian pizza I had last night (from Pizzeria du Tunnel), which was recommended by the hotel owner. The pizza was amazing, and the beer was great too—but I couldn’t finish it, so the leftovers became my lunch!
This section of the trail had an elevation gain of over 5,000 feet, but I had trained for it. The views were so spectacular that I didn’t feel tired at all. I truly enjoyed every step and had to stop every five minutes to take a photo. The TMB really is like a living postcard—everywhere you turn is picture-perfect.
I created my own map using Caltopo map and upload the GPX file to my Garmin Fenix 5x. It worked really well. V standards for variant which is harder but the view is awesome. The weather was so great. I was able to do all variants.
