I had planned a day off to explore Chamonix before heading home, and Aiguille du Midi seemed like the perfect option, assuming good weather. I checked with the Aiguille du Midi information booth, and they reported no visibility at the top, so I decided to try again later. There was no point in going up just to see clouds.
Around 11 AM, the sun started to break through, so I decided to take my chances and bought a one-day multipass. This pass would also let me take the train back from Mer de Glace. After getting off at Plan de l'Aiguille, I hiked to Montenvers to see Mer de Glace. It was a short, pleasant hike of about 6 km.
I found it odd to be on this side of the valley today, especially since I was on the other side just yesterday! The view of Chamonix from this angle was beautiful. I was able to see the glacier at Montenvers, but unfortunately, I was a little too late to fully experience Mer de Glace. The last train left the station at 4:45 PM, so I decided to just take it back to Chamonix.
